Subaru’s Lineup of Family Cars For 2017Leave a Comment
For 2017, Subaru is returning with its full range of vehicles, driven by the excellent figures achieved on almost every segment over the last few quarters. Indeed, it should be noted that the Japanese manufacturer did particularly well in 2016; its various models have become genuine benchmarks on the Canadian market. In the family segment in particular, Subaru has set itself apart from the competition with the latest versions of its Outback model, the brand’s family car par excellence. It returns in 2017 with new equipment, along with new versions of the Crosstrek, Forester, and Impreza (5-door version), the other models that will make Canadian families happy in the new year.
The Subaru Outback: the comfortable and dynamic family car
An alternative to classic SUVs, the Outback perfectly embodies the spirit of freedom and adventure. Always capable both on and off road, the 2017 version includes the ingredients that made the previous editions so successful. On the outside, we find the adventurous yet well-balanced style of the Vermont favourite. Strong without being aggressive, this version comes in 13 different editions with two main engine types: a 2.5-litre, 175 HP engine and a powerful 3.6-litre engine that delivers 256 horsepower, with a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT. With regard to fuel consumption, it remains a reasonable choice, with 8.2 L/100 km on the highway and 11 L per 100 km in the city.
In terms of amenities, the 2017 Outback includes the popular EyeSight driver assistance system, push-button start, voice-activated climate control, and a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat. And when you’re ready to take off on an adventure, you can take advantage of a comfortable cabin, a trunk that can carry up to 2075 litres, and a towing capacity of 1224 kg. What more could you ask for?
The Subaru Impreza 5-door
For 2017, this Subaru sedan is available in a larger and more comfortable hatchback version. Offering a more spacious interior, this version also benefits from the aesthetic improvements applied to the 4-door versions by the Japanese manufacturer’s new platform. However, the 2017 Impreza 5-door retains the famous all-wheel drive system that’s made it so successful. As for the engine, Subaru has brought back its 2.0-litre flat 4-cylinder engine, which now delivers 152 horsepower instead of the 148 offered by the 2016 version.
In terms of amenities, the hatchback version of the Impreza comes standard with an infotainment system that features a 6.5-inch touchscreen with voice-activated Bluetooth connectivity, which guarantees lively family trips. The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features are also included. It also offers up to 1566 litres of cargo space, with the possibility of folding the back seats flat for a little extra.
In addition to the two previous models, which naturally fit into the Japanese manufacturer’s family car category, we’ll add two flagship SUVs from the brand to this collection.
The first one, the Subaru Forester, clearly has the wind in its sails. The brand’s best-selling model in 2016, this compact yet spacious crossover offers an undeniably comfortable ride both on and off road. For 2017, the cabin has been improved to let passengers take advantage of a spacious environment with a sizable, versatile cargo compartment (up to 2115 litres).
We’ll conclude this little tour with the model that without a doubt best embodies Subaru’s versatility: the Crosstrek. Derived from the Impreza, this compact SUV adapts to every demand, venturing off road without any hesitation. The 2017 version of the Crosstrek is largely the same as the previous version, with a few aesthetic exceptions.
