  1. What are the distinct advantages of the Subaru Impreza GT?

Produced since 1992 by the Japanese automobile manufacturer, the Subaru Impreza GT has gradually entered the ranks of the brand’s legendary models. Although it was replaced by the Impreza WRX in 2000, it is still highly regarded by car enthusiasts who can still enjoy the opportunity to take advantage of its exceptional performance.
To better understand the real attraction that this model inspires, here are four features that set it apart from its competitors.

    1 – Its “Boxer” engine

Adopted very early on by Subaru and widely used in almost all of the brand’s models, the flat or “Boxer” engine is without a doubt the first major asset of the Subaru Impreza GT.
Characterized by cylinders that are arranged flat (four, in this case), this type of engine offers appealing advantages for a compact car such as the Impreza GT. Their configuration with the opposed pistons helps significantly reduce vehicle vibrations while driving, ensuring a quiet, comfortable ride.
In addition, a flat motor can be installed at a somewhat lower level in the car, thus lowering the centre of gravity for better handling. The fact that the engine is installed lower also improves passenger safety. In case of frontal impact, the engine effectively slides under the seats, as opposed to the traditional L models.
Finally, thanks to this engine, the Subaru Impreza GT proves quite economical, both in terms of maintenance (fewer parts) and use (fuel economy).

2 – Performs in the city just like it does on the track

With its sporty design, particularly the Turbo version sold in Europe, the Impreza GT holds a great deal of promise for thrill seekers. Elegant and agile, it boasts a powerful engine that ensures a performance quite similar to that of race cars.
In its 1999 and 2000 versions, it’s driven by a 217-hp 2.0 turbo engine capable of 5600 rpm and 29.7 m-kg of torque at 4000 rpm. On the road, the Subaru Impreza GT can reach up to 233 km/h and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. It can cover 1000 metres from a standing start in 26.3 seconds.

    3 – Its all-wheel drive

At Subaru, all-wheel drive (AWD) is available starting from the “smaller” models. It’s therefore only logical that this 4-wheel drive device, along with all the advantages that it entails, is offered by the Impreza GT.
Improving the vehicle’s driveability and acceleration capability, 4-wheel drive is appreciated on snowy terrain and stabilizes handling on slippery roads. It also improves cornering speed.

    4 – An excellent performance/price ratio

Offered at the time for a higher price than other small sedans released at the same time, these days, the Subaru Impreza GT has one of the best performance/price ratios of all models on the market. And even if it’s no longer offered by dealerships today, you can always look for a used model, especially since maintenance is generally inexpensive and spare parts are available at reasonable prices.
