All EyeSight-equipped Subaru Models Earn Superior Rating and 2016 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ award; Five Subaru Models Meet Tougher 2016 TSP Criteria

10 December 2015

Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is proud to announce that five Subaru models have been acknowledged by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as TOP SAFETY PICK + (TSP+) and TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) winners. Meeting tougher criteria for 2016, the Subaru Impreza, Crosstrek, Legacy, Outback and Forester all earn good ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness evaluations and a superior rating for front crash prevention.   Building on the achievement of being named an IIHS TSP+ and TSP award winner, select Subaru vehicles have also achieved IIHS milestones: The Subaru Legacy is the longest running midsize sedan, while the Subaru Forester extends its title as the longest TSP winner in the small SUV class to 10 years and running. The Subaru Crosstrek has also been consistently praised for its high level of safety since the model’s release in 2013.   “Our continued success and IIHS awards demonstrate our commitment to safety,” said Shiro Ohta, chairman, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. “As one of Subaru’s core values, safety continues to be Subaru’s top priority from vehicle design through production.”   The baseline requirements for both awards, TSP+ and TSP, are good ratings in the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as a standard or optional front crash prevention system. The TSP+ winners have a superior- or advanced-rated front crash prevention system with automatic braking capabilities.   “We asked auto manufacturers to do more this year to qualify for our safety awards, and they delivered,” says Adrian Lund, IIHS president. “For the first time, a good rating in the challenging small overlap front crash test is a requirement to win, in addition to an available front crash prevention system. How that system rates determines whether a vehicle will earn TOP SAFETY PICK+ or TOP SAFETY PICK.”   Source : Subaru Canada
